Cape Winelands Tour

Discover the taste of South Afrika

About the Tour

Collect guests from accommodation, drive a 45 -50 minute journey towards Stellenbosch, the 2nd oldest town in South Africa. Being early, let’s start with a Champagne tasting at a choice of wine estates in the Franschhoek region, there are several estates to choose from.

babylonstorenfarm

We can take a walk along this french town acquainting ourselves with the many shops, markets, galleries and boutiques. Once back in the vehicle, taking in the breathtaking views of the Groot Drakenstein mountains while we drive to our next stop, Babylonstoren. This beautiful estate, which is set within 3,5 hectares (8 acres) of cultivated fruit and vegetables, the big garden at Babylonstoren is at the heart of the farm.

Babylonstoren was inspired by the historic Company’s Garden in Cape Town, which supplied sailing ships of the Dutch East India Company with fresh vegetables and fruit during the days when the Cape was a halfway station between Europe and Asia.

Every one of the more than 300 varieties of plants in the garden is edible or has medicinal value. They are also grown as organically as possible and in a biologically sustainable manner. The fruit and vegetables from the garden are harvested all year round for use in two farm-to-fork restaurants. We shall explore this farm, taking in all its surprises and possibly enjoy a wine tasting if time permits or simply explore all that it has to offer.

Comfortable walking shoes are suggested as most of the pathways are gravel and covered with peach pips which can damage high heel shoes.

I’m sure we would have worked up quite an appetite after visiting Babylonstoren (which is a good thing) as our next stop will be at Remhoogte wine estate, where we will be greeted by winemaker and owners of the estate, who will take our guests on a cellar tour while they enjoy a glass of wine on arrival.

Lunch will be served at Vuur restaurant in the valley of this beautiful estate with views of wild antelope that roam metres from this private restaurant that will be “yours” for the afternoon.

This experience is something quite different and will take up most of the afternoon,5 courses will be served straight off the fire that are prepared in front of you while paired with estate wines from Remhoogte estate.

This is an example of many alternatives which can be arranged for you as a lunch venue.

Stellenbosch and Franschhoek offer some of the Cape’s finest eateries to be enjoyed either on wine estates or in the heart of the town. There are many options to choose from and all winelands tours can be tailored to suit each client’s interests and needs.

If drinking wine is not for you, we can offer you many other exciting adventures in this beautiful and historic part of Cape Town. Stellenbosch, being the heart of the South African wine Industry, boasts great beauty and culture that is steeped in South African history.

Walk down the canal-lined avenues, in the shade of giant oak trees and beautifully preserved historic buildings. Stellenbosch has many museums, galleries, shopping experiences as well as cultural experiences.

We can arrange a visit to the local township named Kayamandi which is a developing suburb in Stellenbosch. The name means “nice home” in the Xhosa language, from khaya meaning “home” and mnandi meaning “nice”. We can arrange for you to meet the locals that live in the bustling community while we learn about their African culture and sense of Ubuntu that is found within this community. There are many farms that offer families with younger children exciting experiences such as encounters with eagles, owls and birds of prey found at Spier wine estate which has an Eagle sanctuary that offers its visitors up close and personal encounters with these beautiful birds of prey.

We are also able to arrange many other encounters for you and your family with cheetahs, crocodiles, lamas, reptiles and much much more.

To make this winelands experience totally unforgettable, let us arrange a helicopter flight including luxury transfers to and from your accommodation to the city Helipad, flying over the Waterfront along the Atlantic coast over 12 Apostles into Fish Hoek, then routing along False Bay coast to Strandfontein before heading to Stellenbosch/Franschhoek for a lunch stop.
