About the Tour

Hermanus is world famous for being the best land based whale watching town offering excellent opportunities to view these magnificent creatures from the shore. The Southern Right Whale, which comes from north of Antarctica every year, between July and November, to calve and raise their young before departing back to Antarctic after November each year.

The hour and half drive to this quaint seaside village, is driven along Clarence Drive which has been voted one of the top 10 most scenic coastal roads in the world. Stopping at various spots to take photos of False Bay along the way.

If you would like to board a whale watching boat you can do so at noon, if not we take this time to explore all that Hermanus has to offer, strolling along the cliff tops and watching whales breaching, visiting the vibrant market where you can purchase souvenirs, art, jewellery, clothing, you name it Hermanus has it all!

If you are adventurous, then we can arrange to go kayaking in the Bay, you may be able to get quite close to a whale or two!

Hermanus also has some excellent wine estates in the Hemel-en- Aarde valley (meaning Heaven and Earth) where we can spend the afternoon enjoying some of the best wines and gourmet meals in the country. This valley is known for its Pinot Noir, as the cool sea breeze comes on the shore and the good soil is perfect Terroir for this cultivar.

After enjoying a full day out in this part of the Cape, we take an alternative scenic route back via Grabouw or Franschhoek valley if you would like to explore this region too.

Private tour includes, luxury vehicle with all relevant permits and insurances, fuel, tour guide, water (still or sparkling) will be provided.Tour excludes whale watching boat trip and other boating activities. Lunch and other refreshments for your own account. It is advisable to pack an extra warm jacket, wear comfortable walking shoes, sun hat and sunblock during summer months.

HERE ARE SOME ADVENTUROUS ADDITIONS THAT CAN BE TAILORED TO THIS ITINERARY:

  • Shark cage diving could be added to this trip
  • Fixed wing aircraft trip departing from the town of Stanford flying along the coastline towards Hermanus viewing sea life from the air
  • Kayaking from the Old Hermanus Harbour, enjoy the scenery from the Atlantic Ocean and perhaps meeting a whale or two during this experience
  • Quad biking in the Overberg departing from base camp on one of our routes on the amazing Fynbos farm. Trail is easy to moderate and the guides will ensure you have a memorable experience
